
Theo Papadimitriou was born in Thessaloniki in 1978. He is a graduate of the Department of Music Studies of the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master of Music (MMus) in Music Performance – Conducting from the University of Hull, UK (class of Dr Lee Tsang). He was awarded a diploma in Orchestra Conducting (State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, class of Vladimiros Symeonides), a diploma in Cello (Music College conservatory, class of Michalis Liatsos) and a degree in Piano (Filippos Nakas conservatory, class of Thanassis Bililis). He also holds degrees in Fugue (Filippos Nakas conservatory, class of Evangelia Kikou), in Counterpoint (Filippos Nakas conservatory, class of Evangelia Kikou) and in Harmony (Music College conservatory, class of Ioannis Baroutas). He has attended master classes in orchestra conducting with Dominique Rouits, Manuel Hernández-Silva and Michael Dittrich, and has conducted symphonic concerts in Greece and United Kingdom.
Theo Papadimitriou has composed original music for the cinema, for documentaries and for advertisements. He has participated in collective composing for films with Christos Goussios and with the ensemble The Prefabricated Quartet. He has also collaborated with The Prefabricated Quartet in live accompaniment of silent films with original music of their own. He has composed original music for many theatrical plays and has performed live as a stage musician for some of them. He also composes regularly symphonic works of educational purposes for children’s and youth orchestras.
Theo Papadimitriou is the regular conductor of MOYSA, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki Concert Hall, and he has conducted the orchestra in many concerts, shows and recordings of film music. He is the conductor of the orchestras of New Conservatory of Thessaloniki and has also taken over the direction of the Choir of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki.
As a cellist Theo Papadimitriou has appeared in numerous concerts, performances and shows. In his discography one finds the two records of The Prefabricated Quartet, in which he participated not only as a cellist but also as a co-composer. Additionally, he has many guest appearances in recordings of other composers and music ensembles.
