Participation in the Erasmus+ program
Τhe School of Film actively participates in the ERASMUS+ program. Erasmus+ is the new EU funding program for education, training, youth and sport 2014-2020. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has developed a variety of collaboration agreements with a notable number of European Institutions of Higher Education.
Our school
The School of Film at Aristotle University was established in 2004 and it is the only public higher education film school in Greece, located in the country’s second-biggest city, Thessaloniki. It offers a five-year program of studies with courses 9 thematic areas: Screenwriting, Film directing, Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound and Music of cinema, Production management, Set and Costume Design, Augmented/Virtual/Mixed Reality and Film Theory & History.

Academic matters
The School of film accepts only exchange students from partner Universities, with which there is a valid bilateral agreement. This information can be obtained by contacting the International Relations Office of the partner University. https://eurep.auth.gr/en/agreementsform/viewall
The academic year at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki starts on September 1st every year and ends on August 31st of the following year.
The educational work of every academic year is organized in two semesters, the fall semester and the spring semester, each of which comprises of 13 weeks of teaching and two or three weeks of exams.
- Fall semester courses start in the last week of September and end in late January, followed by the exam period of the fall semester.
- Spring semester courses start in mid-February and end at the end of May, followed by the exam period of the spring semester.
The exact dates for each semester are determined by the University Senate.
Every semester has two exam periods:
- Fall semester courses are examined during the exam period of January-February and re-sit exams are held in September;
- Spring semester courses are examined during the exam period of June and re-sit exams are held in September.
Note: Please keep in mind that the exam periods usually last for three (3) weeks.
The rules of attendance and examination of the courses depends on the instructor.
Courses at the school of Film are normally taught in Greek. However, there are special arrangements for Erasmus+ students, such as the assignment of essays in English with the use of English bibliography in a small group of students.
