To graduate from the School of Film, students have to successfully attend courses (compulsory and elective) for 300 ECTS. It is a five year course, structured as follows: During the first four years, each year has 60 ECTS and each semester 30 ECTS. During the fifth year of their studies, students complete their diploma thesis (60 ECTS).
The university degree offered by the School of Film is an entity based on a full circle of core courses of film theory and history as well as film-making. Following that circle of core courses, each student elects the courses that he/she attends and the final-year project, in order to specialize in one of the following fields: a) screenwriting, b)film directing, c) production management, d) sound and music of cinema, e) set and costume design, f) cinematography, g) editing, h) theory and history of film, i) augmented-virtual-mixed reality.
The School of Film aims to cultivate the art of film-making and to research and study film as an art-form. Graduates have a wide, theoretical and practical, knowledge of film as a medium as well as expert knowledge in the field of their choice.
All the graduates of the School of Film have acquired a basic level of knowledge and skills for every artistic field (Screenwriting, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound and Music, Set and Costume Design, Production, Augmented-virtual-mixed reality ) as well as basic theoretical knowledge and skills in the field of Film Theory and Film History.
In addition, graduates may acquire pedagogical skills for teaching film: the ability to formulate and apply educational programs for students at the Elementary or High School level (teaching cinema, coordinating school projects).
Moreover, depending on the selected courses and their final year project, the students are given the opportunity to reach a professional level the skills mentioned below:
-Skills related to the art of screenwriting: the conception and writing of a film script.
-Skills related to the art of directing: the conception and execution of a filmmaking plan in collaboration with a crew
-Skills related to cinematography: the conception and realization of an artistic project that determines the lighting and the framing of a film.
-Skills related to editing: the conception and realization of an artistic project on the editing of a film.
-Skills related to the artistic work in the field of set and costume design: the conception and realization of an artistic project in relation to the film set and the costumes of a film.
-Skills related to the artistic work in the field of film sound and music: the conception and realization of an artistic project in relation to the soundtrack of a film.
-Skills related to the work in the field of production: the selection, development, production and distribution of audiovisual works.
-Skills related to Film theory and Film history: theoretical and historical expertise on the cinematic medium, the ability to do original academic research, the development of critical and synthetic thinking.
-Skills related to Augmented-Virtual-Mixed Reality
