
Penny Bouska is a director and assistant professor at the Film Department of the School of Fine Arts, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her area of expertise is film directing, while her research extends to interdisciplinary studies of psychoanalytic theory and cinema. She completed her PhD in cinema with a thesis titled “The Uncanny – A Psychoanalytic Study in Cinema” (2016) under the supervision of Professor Antoinetta Angelidi. She pursued her master’s degree at Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3 in France and was the first graduate of the Film Department in Thessaloniki. She was a scholarship recipient of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) for doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate studies, as well as a recipient of excellence scholarship from the Varka Foundation. She is proficient in three languages, French and English along with her native language, Greek. She has directed a feature-length film titled “Common Ground” (2017), as well as short films and documentaries. She specializes in experimental cinema and has participated in various festivals with some distinctions. She has published scientific articles and contributed to volumes, with her most significant contribution being the book “ReFocus: The Films of Antoinetta Angelidi” (2022), which she co-edited and was published by Edinburgh University Press.
