Ioannis Maroudas

Assistant Professor in screenwriting

Born in Athens, 1968. Studied History at the National and Kapodistrian Univeristy of Athens (NKUA) and Cinematography at Eug. Xatzikou Film School. M.A. in Cultural Management, Panteion University, Greece (2005-07).

Since 1991 he has been working as a professional scriptwriter for television and cinema. His works include the award-winning film adaptation of Theotokis’ novel Slaves in their Bonds (2008, Lykouresis), the neo-noir film Illusion (2013, Karydas) and the successful comedy TV series Votka Portokali (2001, Thomopoulos).

In 1999 he published his first book, Scribola (published by Οxy editions) – a collection of short stories of the fantastic- while in 2008 his novel H Mystiki Diathiki tis Pinelopis Gavogianni was published by Oceanida editions.

He has taught Screenwriting at the School of Film Studies, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2007-2015), in the postgraduate program of Creative Writing held by the Hellenic Open University and the University of Western Macedonia (2018-2019), as well as in a series of seminars held by the Scriptwriters’ Guild of Greece (S.G.G.) and by Institutes of Vocational Training. He has also worked as a script editor for short and feature films in programs held by the Greek Film Center.

He has been a member of S.G.G. since 1995, and a Board member from 2007 to 2016. Member of the ‘Athina’ Collective Management Society of Authors of Dramatic and Audiovisual works (SADA) since 2002, and a Board member from 2015 until today.

Since 2020, he has been elected Assistant Professor at the School of Film Studies., AUTh.

Films

Illusion (2013), feature film directed by S. Karydas, produced by M. Panagiotopoulos / Metavision, co-produced by GFC, Alatas Films and ERT.

Dying for the Truth (2011), a screenplay adaptation of N. Megrelis’ documentary. Producers: Odeon & Faliro House Pr., Of CL Pr., Film In Mind Pr., Co-produced by: GFC, ERT, New Message. (Best Documentary Award at the Kazan Film Festival in Russia, 2011. Best Documentary Award at the Sichuan Film Festival, China 2011. 3rd Best Film Award and 1st Editing Award, 2011 Halkida Festival)

Slaves In Their Ties (2008) feature film directed by T. Lykouresis, screenplay in collaboration with M. Vardaka and the director, based on the novel of the same title by K. Theotokis, produced by: GFC, NOVA, ERT. Producer: N. Sekeris.

(State Film Award for Quality of Culture for the Screenplay of the film, as well as second prize for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Music, Sound and Costume Design. ).

The Fall (2002) short film, directed by M. Galanakis, production: Capricorn, ET1.

(GFC Quality Award).

The Attractor (1999) short film, directed by M. Galanakis, produced by: GFC, Aigokeros. (State Prize, Quality Award GFC. First Prize for Fantastic Cinema Kotroni’s Foundation).

Safe Sex, series of standalone episodes, 7 episodes, Mega, 2007.

Mehri treis einai desmos, 8 standalone episodes of 60 minutes, ALTER, 2004.

Votka Portokali, comedy series of 33 episodes, directed by V. Thomopoulos, ANT1, 2001.

Magiki Nyhta, series of independent episodes, screenplay in 2 episodes (directed by D. Arvanitis), ET1, 1995.

Tolmires Istories, series of independent episodes, collaboration in 4 episodes, ANT1, (directed by D. Arvanitis, Th. Antoniou) 1994.

Horis Makigiaz, TV movie directed by D. Mavroidis, ANT1, 1993.

Parakmptirios, TV drama series of 26 episodes directed by P. Michael, collaboration in the script with S. Pierrakou, ET1, 1991.
